On the Visuals screen, switch the hook off, change its style, edit its words or ask for another suggestion. You get a warning if the words aren't in your narration.
Then your video carries on
The hook plays over your first shot. A picture keeps moving with a slow push-in after it; a video clip carries on from where the hook left it.

What is an opening hook?
The first few seconds of your video, when viewers decide whether to keep watching. Vid Optimus takes a line from your own narration and slams it onto the first picture with a punch-in, a flash and its own sound, then your video carries on.
How do I turn it on?
Tick Opening hook in the AI Director settings or in the new-project wizard. It is off until you do. You can also add a hook to any project, Director or not, from the Opening hook panel at the top of the Visuals screen.
Can a hook say something my script does not?
No. Every word on screen is quoted from your narration, and numbers and dates must be ones your narration says. If AI Director's idea doesn't pass that check, the hook quotes your opening line instead, or is left out.
Which hook style should I use?
Number and Countdown need a figure or a time your script says. Cold open suits history and documentaries, Highlighter suits calm and serious channels, Question and Redacted suit mysteries, and Statement, Glitch and Rapid fire suit Shorts. Leave the styles open and AI Director picks the one that fits your opening line.
Does a hook cost anything extra?
The hook is drawn on your computer, so there is no per-hook fee. AI Director chooses its words in one short call to the same Groq or OpenAI key it already uses to plan your shots.
Does it work in Urdu, Arabic or Hebrew?
Yes. Right-to-left hooks are laid out the way they read, in your caption font.
Can I change or remove the hook?
Yes. On the Visuals screen you can switch it off, pick another style, edit the words or ask for another suggestion. Switching it off keeps it, so you can bring it back.
Does it work for Shorts and for YouTube videos?
Yes. Every style is laid out for 9:16 Shorts and Reels and for 16:9 YouTube videos, from the same project.
